The Catskills have some fine eating establishments. You can find just about anything you want, including some very fine pizza.
Tannersville
Maggie’s Krooked Cafe – Great hearty breakfast and lunch fare. Maggie is incredibly hospitable, and if she hears you’re an ice climber she might offer to fill your thermos or load your pockets with complimentary baked goodies. 6000 Main Street, Tannersville, NY 12485, 518-589-6101
Last Chance Antiques and Cheese Cafe –
When you ask many locals where they’ll eat out in Tannersville the Last Chance is probably the answer you’ll get. The food is good and the atmosphere is very friendly. The beer list is long, like 300 beers long. 6009 Main Street, Tannersville, NY 12485, 518-589-6424
Pancho Villa’s Mexican Restaurant – If you want to go out after climbing with a group of folks, Pancho Villa’s is a good spot.
Chips and guacamole, beer and good Mexican food make this a fun apres climbing venue. 6037 Main Street, Tannersville, NY 12485, 518-589-5134
Phoenicia
Sweet Sue’s – Don’t count on Sweet Sue’s being open for breakfast if you’re doing the alpine start. If you’re on the laid back plan though, you can find outstanding pancakes, egg dishes, and homemade bread here. Don’t forget to bring cash, they don’t take cards. 49 Main Street, Phoenicia, NY 12464, 845-688-7852
Brio’s –
Pizza doesn’t get much better. I’m not kidding. This place is straight out of NYC with thin crust stone hearth pizza. They do hearty breakfast and lunch entrees but it’s best to sit down, unbutton the top button on your pants and chow down because the pizza is out of this world. If you want Mexican walk through the double doors and you’ll find yourself in The Sportman’s Alamo, a Mexican restaurant and bar. 68 Main Street, Phoenicia, NY 12464

Mt. Tremper
Tiso’s – Just south of Phoenicia, on Rt. 212 less than a mile from Rt. 28 is Tiso’s. It’s well known for it’s homestyle atmosphere and made-to-order authentic Italian cuisine. Another local’s favorite, Tiso’s is packed on the weekends. It’s worth a visit if you’re hungry and headed down Rt 28 back to the Thruway. 5327 Route 212, Mt Tremper, NY 12457

Shokan
Winchell’s Pizza and BBQ –
About halfway between Phoenicia and the Thruway is Winchell’s. Whoa. Great pizza and calzones, good salads and a number of taps in the wall. Check this place out. 3187 State Route 28, Shokan, NY 12481 845-657-3352
